HANS SISÁ - International press cuttings and quotes

Many painters find themselves “pursuing the demons in man”. However very few accomplish this with the great ability and psychological depth of Hans Sisa. He paints expressively. The urgency of human need speaks out of his paintings. Also his landscapes burn in upheaval, mirroring inner drama…  (St.Galler Tagblatt - Switzerland)

To concern oneself with the paintings of Hans Sisa is to enter into depths of human ruin. His painting is very expressive and out of his landscapes speaks inner upheaval and urgency - sometimes in dark, unsettling color tones of decomposition.  (Salzburger Nachrichten - Austria)

Hans Sisa expresses these thoughts in a series of  visionary paintings, which either take established  myths and realize them in  a shocking form ( “Apocolyptic Riders”, “Resurrection”, “Cyclops” ), or portray the nightmares and futuristic fear-projections of our century  (“Future”,“Out of Work”, “Barbed Wire”, “Demonstration”), wherein the  message goes far beyond simple social criticism. Many paintings are on the intellectual level - ironic und bitterly angry. (Südkurier - Germany)

The quality of this exhibition is certainly the highest among the colorful offerings currently in the art world in Salzburg at Easter. Hans Sisa’s dark, demonic watercolors have at times the Passion as their theme, the Crucifixion- here is the outer and inner suffering of the creature in the forefront of the picture’s theme. For the art lover with high standards, this impressive work of Hans Sisa is a real Find. (Salzburger Volkszeitung - Österreich)

The variety of colouring is of high artistic interest. The use of a wide range of expression which the Linz born painter has at his disposal manifests itself  in inhibited, muted colors. The painter combines the necessary graphic contouring with a strong stroke which usually remains visible in the working of the paint surface. He paints with an expressiveness that does justice to the themes, which have already swollen and been pushed out onto the surface. (Prof.Gertrude Haider Grünwald-Director of the Stadtgalerie Traun - Austria)

It could have to do with nightmares, but it is not enough to think of real destruction and persecutions in World War 2 or upon today’s threat of nuclear catastrophe to be immediately conscious of the current explosiveness of these paintings…(Dr.Anna Linoli - Florenz  Italien)

Hans Sisa has a wide range of feeling and expression at his disposal, which is of a high quality and reaches from the lyric to the dramatic. (Gorgio Trevisan-L`Arena- Verona - Italien)

He proves artistic handwork through exquisitely painted landscapes and portraits, at the same time shocking with his most unusual demonic pictures in largest museum format.  (Rudolf Dorn - Wien - Austria)

Hans Sisa, with his series of works in large format, takes up the themes of human disaster, violence and death from the standpoint of a Alfred Kubin, Vilma Eckl, Margret Bilger or even an „upper Austrian Oskar Kokoschka and carries them out formally and radically into our present day. In this way the artist, who has also been prominently represented in the international arenas of our land, manages a continuing dialogue and an important connection between generations of Art and Society. (Dr.Josef Pühringer - Landeshauptmann of Oberösterreich, Austria)

The paintings bore deep into the subconscious of the onlooker in a lasting way that captures the memory. Sisa portrays also light and airy mediums, however, that show life’s cheerful side as well. For example, the cityscape of Venice overflows with the airy light southern charm, the mood of which the painter can capture exactly. On the side of the painting he has Cyprian fishing boats dancing upon the waves. The port scene is wonderfully lively, the colouring filled with bright light throughout. Also the drawings in their smaller form are full of action - The paintstrokes of this artist are sufficient to describe partly surreal, partly dreamingly beautiful scenes. (Mag.Wolfgang Macherhammer - OÖ.Nachrichten - Austria)

The artistic married couple Hans SISA - Sophia LARSON is always to be seen where charity and humanity are in the forefront. Sophia Larson, a dramatic soprano of international reknown, stood this time at her husband Hans Sisa’s side as galerie manager. Hans Sisa created the pictorial ambience for this very moving and more-than-under-the-skin felt evening, “Against Violence”. (Der neue Merker Vienna - Austria)

Your wonderful exhibition in Estonia has now come to an end-six different towns in almost seven months, almost nine thousand visitors, numerous enthusiastic media responses, a truly well earned success. I undertook almost all openings myself. Mayors, provincial governors, cultural representatives, museum directors etc. personally attended each time to underline the importance of the exhibit in their town and region, as well as to honour the artist from Austria. The exhibition, in may opinion, can serve as a first class artistic calling card to represent Austria on an international tour. (Dr. Jakub Forst Battaglia, Embassador to Estonia – Austrian Embassy, Tallinn)
